AT THE Big 5, Zamil Steel Industries (PEB Unit) will aim to reinforce its position as a leading pre-engineered buildings supplier in the regional as well as the global market. The Dammam-headquartered manufacturer will also use the platform to promote the use of steel in the construction industry.
"We hope to promote our products to a concentration of specialised attendants at the show," says Hatem Al Turki, corporate marketing manager. "We have been participating regularly at the exhibition for the past few years and have realised considerable business opportunities, some of which have paved the way for contracts."
At the Big 5, Zamil Steel will promote PEBs and their components, and open web steel joists and floor decking systems.
According to Al Turki, the company will showcase its prowess in engineering that has allowed it to take on complex steel building projects.
"Zamil Steel's unmatched engineering capabilities allow it to tackle all degrees of complexity found in steel buildings. Further, value engineering plays a big role in our marketing strategy, whereby we can convert building systems and optimise designs to the benefit of the customers and end-users," he says.
Zamil Steel is a global leader in the design and manufacture of PEBs, and the Middle East's premier supplier of structural steel products and process equipment, transmission and telecommunications towers, building components and open web steel joists and decking.
"As an industry leader, Zamil Steel excels in engineering, manufacturing, sales and project management and offers clients a diverse range of products from which to compile a total building solution. The company utilises state-of-the-art engineering and manufacturing software and machinery in designing, estimating, shop detailing and manufacturing each of its products," Al Turki says.
PEBs are commonly used to accommodate factories, warehouses, showrooms, sport centres, hypermarkets, sports enclosures, wedding halls, aircraft hangars, gas stations, car-parking shades and restaurants.
As part of its ongoing development initiatives, Zamil Steel PEB recently introduced an online live enquiry system (LIS), an information management system that has proven to be successful in managing and cutting delays in the execution of projects. The web-based LIS enables sales offices around the globe to access Zamil Steel's database and extract information relevant to the progress of any of their projects, including information related to the fabrication status, delivery schedules and detailed shipping progress, besides other dynamic information.
In addition to these developments, the company is continuously on the look out for opportunities to enter new markets through a direct presence or through certified builders. "Also, our ‘Product Research and Development' department is always coming up with products and techniques that help in building on our capacity and promoting diversification," Al Turki says.
Commenting on the company's business levels, he says: "Although the market price levels are very competitive, our order intake meets our planned targets, which have improved over last year's."
He adds that Zamil Steel's share in the domestic market surpassed half of its total sales recently and expects this to increase even further by the year-end.
Al Turki sees immense potential for the construction sector in the region, which is expected to see further development in infrastructure and greater industrialisation. "Saudi Arabia, in particular, has the greatest need for sustained development for the coming decade," he adds.
Some of the key projects Zamil Steel is involved with include Princess Nora University and King Abdul Aziz University buildings in Riyadh, and Obeikan Glass Factory in Yanbu, all in Saudi Arabia; Texhong Textile Factory in Dong Nai Province and a forged steel mill for the Thep Viet Corp Group in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, both in Vietnam; Techno Pack Factory, Damascus, Syria; and the Royal Tank Museum building in Amman, Jordan.
Zamil Steel Industries PEB Unit is headquartered in the First Industrial City, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, where its main factories are based. Other factories are located in Egypt, Vietnam, the UAE and India. About 3,745 employees work in its PEB factories that cover a total site area of 470,615 sq m, with plant area standing at 168,600 sq m.
Zamil Steel's commitment to service at the local level is evidenced by a network of 65 area offices located in 37 countries. It engages the services of a wide network of certified builders around the globe and export to about 90 countries worldwide.
