Engineering

The Engineering department of Structural Steel Division utilizes the hardware and software that meets the highest International standards and is equipped with:

  • The latest release of analysis and design software GTSTRUDL & STAAD PRO, handled by highly qualified structural engineers who are experienced in designing complex structures.
  • The most suited infrastructure required for a 100 percent CAD environment. Automation has been implemented to achieve accuracy and efficiency in designing complex structures.
  • State of the art Structural Steel detailing packages such as Xsteel and SDS/2 (Design Data U.S.A.) in addition to other CAD Packages such as AutoCAD and Micro Station to provide accurate and high quality drawings. All drawings are computer generated.
  • A system development Department dedicated to improve the existing facilities in line with the latest market trends and client requirements. Apart from development on CAD programs, the group takes pride in linking of CAD to CNC equipment at the fabrication shop to accelerate the production activities.
  • Detailing of structures from steel detailing neutral files, accepted by either diskettes or through Internet. Fast turn-around time achieved through Internet. Fast turn around time achieved through electronic file transfer by FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
  • The Engineering department is capable of handling all types of structures in the areas of design detailing and preparation of Bill of Materials. The department has a capacity to produce over 3500 MT of shop drawings and associated documents by the effective use of computer software's, qualified & experienced Engineers.
  • To achieve project requirements of delivery, the engineering department has regular meetings for planning, review and coordination between design and drafting.
  • For easy reference and cross-checking of the details of the individual piece, the Engineering department has developed a piece mark code system which consists of the item number and finishing type.
  • To identify the correct bolt assembly for erection, the Engineering department produces computerized field bolt list which gives quantity, type and finish of the bolt assembly associated with each piece mark.
  • Upon completion of shop drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM), the Piece Mark Tracking Report (PMTR) is generated by Oracle computers system to track and monitor the progress and status of each piece in the whole project.
  • PMTR presents the following information:
    • Shop Drawings numbers
    • Piece mark of each member
    • Number of pieces
    • Member description
    • Unit and total weight
    • Unit and total surface area
    • Type of material i.e. hot rolled or built up
In addition to the above, PMTR also presents the different stages of production for each job like: engineering completion, production order, material cutting, material fitting, welding, shot blasting, painting, Q.C. inspection and shipping completion.
